‘Ek Main Aur Ek Tu’ is a sweet coming of age film. Imran Khan as Rahul Kapoor plays an ordinary guy, set to inherit his father’s business. He’s working in Las Vegas in an Architecture firm, for experience. But Kareena Kapoor as Rianna Braganza finds his uniquiness and tags him as- “perfectly average.”
The boy leads a bland and boring life where the girl, being a hairstylist is jovial and full of life. They are two diagonally opposite individuals who bond up together as opposite always attracts.
The movie is all about the friendship between the two. Rahul could never come out of his parents’ shadow, Riana teaches him to be wild, and they lead a few drinks and wake up the next morning to realize their ‘marital statuses’ in their drunken condition. They decide to annule it which would take a few days.
In the meantime, Rianna loses her rented apartment and takes a shelter in Rahul’s apartment. Rianna’s company brings in life to the boring Rahul. Further they fly to India and Rianna introduces Rahul to her joint family.
As the enjoyment continues, the later half of the film follows misunderstandings, separations and reunions. Though the concept is no new, the accidental marriage theme and fresh chemistry between the lead pairs give a strong flavor to the film.
Kareena Kapoor is cute as ever in her looks and acts and is adorable. Imran Khan is decent as a 25-yr guy. Ratna Pathak Shah as the elite fashion fanatic mother is too good. Boman Irani is always excellent as a father. kareena’s father is funny and deserves mention as he is a deviation from the usual father figures of bollywood.
Director Shakun Batra handles the story with his utmost sensitivity. The dialogues are casual with little punches. The film, which overall flows smoothly, is a “perfectly average”
